Committe formations top the agenda when parliament resumes after recess

Parliament is scheduled to resume its Fourth Session on 11th of February 2025 following a recess period, during which both the National Assembly and the Senate have been on break.

During the upcoming session, the national assembly is expected to reconstitute 18 of its committees, a standard procedure that occurs once Parliament reconvenes from recess.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged the Azimio la Umoja coalition leaders to occupy the majority seats in Parliament after the High Court ruled that the Kenya Kwanza coalition is not the House’s majority.

A three-judge bench on Friday ruled that President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza is not the majority and cannot claim seniority status.

Kalonzo therefore holds that the Azimio coalition should take their rightful position pending official House leadership changes.

According to Senate Majority Leader and Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, the legislators will prioritize critical financial and legislative matters.

These include the passage of the Budget Policy Statement (BPS) for 2025 in line with Section 25 of the Public Finance Management Act (PFM) and Standing Order 186(1).

The Senate will also deliberate on the Division of Revenue Bill (2025/2026), the County Allocation of Revenue Bill (2025/2026) and the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill (2025/2026) alongside approving the Cash Disbursement Schedules.

This crucial Fourth Session of the 4th Senate is scheduled to conclude on December 4, 2025, in accordance with Standing Order 31.

As the session unfolds, lawmakers will be expected to navigate these legislative priorities while addressing the pressing needs of county governments and national development.
