A section of North Eastern Members of Parliament has condemned Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya for politicizing the abolishment of the Vetting of IDs for residents from the region, terming their remarks as baseless.
Led by Wajir South MP Mohamed Adow, the MPs argued that north Eastern locals have been at the forefront of protecting Kenyans and the remarks by the leaders is an outright violation of their legal rights.
Eldas MP Adan Kenyan has also backed President Ruto’s decision, as a step in restoring fairness and ending an unjust practice but not as a ploy to fetch the North Eastern vote basket ahead of the 2027 election.
President Ruto last week abolished the vetting process for Identification Card issuance for residents of Kenya’s North Eastern region.
The move, according to Ruto, is aimed at streamlining access to national documents for the region’s residents, who have long faced bureaucratic hurdles and accusations of systemic discrimination in obtaining IDs and birth certificates.
