The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has accused the national police service of frustrating their investigations into cases of abduction allegedly perpetrated by police officers
IPOA says their inquiry to the inspector general of police to provide details of suspected officers has fell on deaf years delaying hundred of families justice following the disappearance or murder of their loved ones
IPOA Chairperson Isaac Hassan stated that while many Kenyans suspect police involvement in these abductions, it remains challenging to verify such claims.
”These are issues that even the police must investigate. We saw in the media, and got people who have fake number place. These are issues that even the police must investigate. So we wait for the IG to give a full report on that.’‘ Hassan said.
The director general of IPOA Helema Halake has confirmed that the several files from cases including from Embu, Kajiado and Nairobi, have been forwarded to the office of the director of public prosecution and have opened cases in the courts.
The move by the agency follows public outcry over rising abduction incidents particularly of young Kenyans these past few months.
‘‘Investigations are ongoing, as you are aware, these are matter which is also being conversed in in court, and we have already clearly went even to court and presented the preliminary findings from our investigation.” Helema said
