Pressure is building on seven Supreme Court judges after 13 lawyers filed a petition seeking their removal from office.
The lawyers, under Ahmednasir Abdullahi Advocates , accused the judges of misconduct for barring them from appearing before the court.
The petition, filed with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), cites Article 168(1) of the Constitution, which outlines grounds for the removal of superior court judges.
“The seven Justices of the Supreme Court are unfit to hold the position of Judges of the Supreme Court of Kenya or any other position within the judiciary or continue being in office pursuant to Article 168(1) of the Constitution of Kenya for the reasons set out in this Petition,” the petitioners said.
The Petition targets Chief Justice Martha Koome, deputy chief justice Philomena Mwilu, Mohamed Ibrahim, Dr. Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndung’u, Isaac Lenaola, and William Ouko.
The lawyers urged the JSC to recommend their suspension to President William Ruto and request the formation of tribunals to investigate the matter.
