At least four people have died following heavy rains that have pounded the city of Nairobi since last night
According to Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei, the deceased include a police officer who was rescuing trapped families in the Kamukunji area following a distress call to rescue the residents in a trapped flooded house.
Bungei said three other people have been swept by water in Gigiri, Dagoretti and Buruburu areas including bodaboda riders. due to poor drainage.
The Nairobi expressway has also been rendered impassable following last night heavy flooding along some sections of the 42 Km stretch
Other flooded parts include South C and Ruai as neighbourhoods remained semi-submerged for the better part of the night.
The pounding rains were also accompanied by isolated storms as trees were felled in parts of the city including Dennis Pritt Road in Kilimani.
Data from the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) shows that the rains will stretch to Wednesday as most parts of the country will experience heavy rains.
The met Director Kennedy Thiong’o also warned of isolated storms over some parts of the country.
