Elections Observation Group reveals that 44 percent of Kenyans don’t trust the IEBC

 44 percent of Kenyans have no trust in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission according to A new report by Elections Observation Group 

The report released by the election observation group dubbed ‘Vile Tunaicheki’ has revealed that only 32 per cent trust the commission with 24 per cent having a neutral opinion.

The report was conducted to assess whether the 2022 election process met citizens’ expectations.

According to the report, IEBC was seen as ill-prepared, under state capture and controlled by external forces.

Additionally, 70 percent of respondents said the voter registration process was complicated and complex, leading to apathy and incurious

“Malpractices observed during the 2022 election include ballot stuffing, voter intimidation, violence and voters’ interference,” the report said.

Lack of ballot secrecy, long queues and overcrowding reported and voter intimidation by criminal gangs are the other concerns raised.

“87 per cent of respondents said crucial laws were not enacted thus failure to address accountability for past abuses by political actors,” the report said.
