Opposition leader Raila Odinga has canceled his rally at the Kamukunji grounds claiming that the government had hired armed goons to maim anti-government protesters.
Odinga claims that the goons thwarted Wednesday protests by destroying their public address systems and dispersing the gathering crowd using crude weapons.
The Azimio coalition leader has also condemned the police for using excessive force during today’s protests and is now blaming the police for destruction of property.
Odinga, who was speaking at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga foundation, has vowed to pile more pressure on the government if President William Ruto will not heed to Kenyans the call of lowering the cost of living.
Other opposition leaders have made prints in major towns, with Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, former Agriculture CS Peter Munya and former Jubilee SG Jeremiah Kioni leading protests in Meru county.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is also leading protests in Machakos county accompanied by a host of other Ukambani opposition leaders
The ongoing demonstrations have precipitated closure of businesses and paralyzing most economic activities inKisumu, Kisii and Busia, ounty whose protest was led by ODM Chairman Wycliff Opatanya and George Wajackoya.
The Nairobi central business district has for the better part of the day remained deserted with roads leading to the town barricaded.
In a latest directive, Moja Expressway the company managing the Expressway has asked All motorists plying the Westlands-Mlolongo route to exit from JKIA and those headed to Westlands have been urged to join the road from JKIA Toll Station.
Police presence is still heavily felt in Kibera, Mathare ,Mlolongo and Thika road areas.
