Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has ditched the Azimio Coalition to join Deputy President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza.
Mutua says he made the decision after Azimio failed to make public the coalition agreement signed with affiliate parties.
He noted that there is mistrust in the Azimio coalition led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and its presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
“It is unfortunate that as Azimio has become a club for the few. Yes it is true, we are joining Kenya Kwanza,” said Mutua.
This comes after Mutua last week had threatened to move to court after he was denied a copy of the coalition agreement.
Mutua lamented on his Twitter page saying the Registrar of Political Parties had denied them access to the agreement, despite efforts to have a copy.
“The registrar of political parties (RPP) and Azimio coalition party have refused to give us a copy of the Azimio coalition agreement deposited with the RPP, we signed to form the coalition.
The governor said his party operated in good faith which was not reciprocated by the coalition.
