IEBC announces beginning of diaspora voter registrations

Diaspora voter registrations have begun in sections of the globe, that were experiencing a delay.

Acting Commission Secretary & CEO Marjan Hussein toured Doha, to oversee the start of the Voter Registration exercise at the Kenya High Commission in Qatar.

The registrations in Doha were encountered with logistical problems, but Kenyans can now enlist as voters, at the embassy office.

Meanwhile Kenyans living in South Africa turned out in large numbers yesterday, for the exercise that will run for 15 days.

Elsewhere, Acting Kenya High Commissioner in Rwanda Philip Githiora urges over 6,000 Kenyans living in Rwanda to register at the Rwanda offices.

Diaspora Voter Registration is ongoing in Kigali & the ambassador has urged Kenyans in different districts in Rwanda to enlist as voters.

This comes after IEBC announced delayed registrations in the UK, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement, the commission’s chairman Wafula Chebukati stated the exercise which kicked off on Monday was delayed to the COVID-19 travel restrictions currently in place within the three countries.

Upon commencement, the exercise will be extended by the number of days lost to ensure that eligible voters are availed the set 15 days for registration,” Chebukati stated.
