National assembly passes political parties amendment bill 2021 -Next stop Senate

The National Assembly special sittings scheduled for today and tomorrow have been canceled after the national assembly passed the Political parties amendment bill 2021.

The bill will now be submitted to the Senate for debate. Senate Speaker is also expected to call for a special seating to debate the bill before the senators resume after the long recess.

If the Senate agrees with the current form of the bill ,it will be submitted back to the national assembly before it is signed into law by the President.

If the Senate makes any changes to the bill, then both speakers will need to form a mediation team to agree on one document that will be presented to the President for signing.

The efforts by the MPs allied to the deputy president to amend a number of clauses were shot down by the handshake counterparts .

The Members of Parliament are now expected to resume their sittings later on 25 January.
