ODM and UDA condemn police intimidation in by-election

ODM leader Raila Odinga has condemned abuse of police powers in Bonchari and Juja constituencies .

Odinga termed it an arrogant display of impunity by a few overzealous Government officials. Despite winning the Bonchari seat , the incoming MP Pavel Oimeke complained of harassment by police in what he referred to, as over policing in an election.

Oimeke garnered 8,049 votes and his closest challenger of jubilee party Zebedeo Opore managed 7,279 votes. Teresa Oroo of (UDA) party was third with 6,964 votes.

In Juja constituency and rorie ward in Olkalou ,UDA complained of threats and unexplained arrest of their agents by police.

In a statement the party said the police were being used to intimidate voters and agents during the election on Tuesday.


IEBC has declared Francis Muraya Githaiga of UDA as the duly elected Member of County Assembly for Rurii ward in Nyandarua County. Muraya beat his closest challenger from the jubilee party .

In Juja final results are yet to be tallied after it was disrupted last night by jubilee party members . In a statement IEBC condemned the chaos allegedly caused by governor James Nyoro and woman representative Gathoni wa Mucomba.

IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati is in Juja tallying center in Mangu high school to supervise the resumption of tallying.


Reports from the UDA party say that by the time tallying was disrupted, their candidate GEORGE KOIMBURI was leading the Jubilee candidate Susan Waititu by over 5000 votes.
