Kisumu: 9 officers to appear in court today for dragging a woman by vehicle

Nine Kisumu County Government enforcement officers are set to appear before Kisumu Law Courts today.

The nine are accused of causing bodily harm to Beatrice Magolo after dragging her by a vehicle on tarmac road.

County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu says the 9 spent Thursday night at the Kisumu Central Police Station.

The woman sustained injuries during the incident which raised uproar among locals and the country at large, after a video of the incident circulated on social media.

The nine officers are Victor Ochieng, Kevin Omondi, George Nyonje, Faith Akoth, Paul Ochieng, Martin Olwa, Japheth Odero, Vincent Okeyo and Josephat Rowa.

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said he was saddenned by what had happened and ordered the immediate suspension of the officer.

He said, “As investigations continue on this matter with the urgency it deserves, I have directed the City Manager to immediately suspend from duty all the Officers who were involved in this incident with immediate effect, until the conclusion of the on-going probe on the matter.”

The Governor said that all County enforcement officers must carry out their duties while fully respecting human rights of the people.
