Pavel Oimeke to vie for Bonchari parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket

Former Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority director general Pavel Oimeke is ODM’s candidate for Bonchari Parliamentary by-election.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and National Election Board Chairperson Catherine Mumma say, a consensus failed. As a result, the most suitable candidate in a list of 4, remains Pavel Oimeke.

Prior to this, ODM’s deputy leader Wycliffe Oparanya met Oimeke and ex-Kisii Environment and Water executive John Bill Momanyi who qualified for the post.

Businessman David Ogega, who is among the 4 applicants who have shown interest in the seat, is disqualified. This is because of improper registration as a party member. Election Board Chairperson, Catherine Mumma says Ogega is yet to regularize his membership registration after contesting in the last general election as an independent candidate.

On the other hand Pavel Oimeke is popular in the constituency by virtue of a popular vote. Reports from a pollster expert confirms

Pavel has been serving in the energy agency since 2017
