Muslim community cite harassment in acquiring IDs in Mt Kenya region

A host of Muslim community members from the mount Kenya region have complained of being discriminated in the process of acquiring National Identity cards despite an  express order by president William Ruto calling for the abolishment of the vetting of persons during registration

The leaders have urged  for the president Intervention when they hosted the former prime minister Raila Odinga for an ifar last night.

The communities members have accused county officials in the county from the mount Kenya region for failing to comply with the order.

“It cannot be that our work is just to queue and make other people rise to power, only to forget us once they get there. It is time to stop receiving raw deals, despite our input. Let the discrimination in appointments and the issuance of identification cards come to an end,” Juma Hemedi, the chairperson of the Muslim Community in Kiambu County,  said

Their sentiments come even as president Ruto is expected to climb the mountain in the coming days for  inspection of a series of development projects

And as the mount Kenya region remains hostile following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua ahead of the Ruto visit, a host of leaders have remained non committal in accompanying the head of state when he traverses the mountain

Speaking at a local media, Muranga Senator Joe Nyutu says this Ruto’s first visit to the region since the impeachment of Gachagua last October will only be as good as Raila Odinga’s what he would offer the mountain residents.
