President William Ruto has handed over the Kenyan flag to the Under-20 men’s football team at State House this morning, ahead of the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The President urged the team to remain focused and disciplined, assuring them of the government’s full support.
‘‘I like the squad’s courage and determination and I assure you of the government’s support,’’ President Ruto speaking at the Statehouse.
‘‘I want you as a team to show high competence in the tournament and make to it at the final spot. If you make it at the finals, I will be there to cheer you up, ‘Msiniangushe hapo,’’ Ruto added.
While expressing his best wishes to the team, the President noted that the government remains committed to enhancing the country’s sports infrastructure.
He emphasized that building proper facilities is crucial to supporting the youth, particularly in harnessing and nurturing their talents.
“We are refurbishing Kasarani Stadium — we are currently putting up a canopy, and we want to raise the standards of the stadium. We will do the same at Nyayo Stadium, Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, and many other stadiums across the country,” said the President.
“The Sports CS, Salim Mvurya, and his team at the Ministry are also expanding infrastructure,” President Ruto added.
The Rising Stars are scheduled to depart for Morocco on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, for a 10-day training camp ahead of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.
The President urged the team to remain focused and disciplined, assuring them of the government’s full support.
He encouraged the players to be good ambassadors for Kenya and to seize the opportunity to showcase their talent on the continental stage.
