Landlords and property owners across Kenya now have a streamlined way to meet their tax obligations with the launch of the Electronic Rental Income Tax System (eRITS) by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
This new platform, integrated into KRA’s Enterprise Integration Platform, Gava Connect, is designed to simplify tax compliance for the real estate sector, making it easier for landlords to pay their monthly rental income taxes on time.
The eRITS system allows property owners to access and manage their tax obligations through two primary channels: the Gava Connect API portal for system-to-system integration or the eCitizen platform.
This innovation aims to enhance voluntary compliance while minimizing administrative complexities associated with taxation, aligning with the government’s ongoing efforts to create a fair and efficient tax environment.
Speaking at the launch event in Nairobi, Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo emphasized that the eRITS platform marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to make tax compliance seamless.
He noted that with this system, the government is moving towards a more equitable and predictable tax framework, benefiting both taxpayers and the broader national development agenda.
This is part of a broader strategy to ensure that tax compliance becomes a shared responsibility rather than a burden.
