Parliament splitted over Butere Girls Echoes of War Play

Butere Girls Echoes of War scripted by former UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala has split the national assembly with pro – government leaders castigating the play as a threat to national security and raising a generation of rebellious children

On the other hand, leaders allied to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua have condemned government high handedness in handling the matter and accused president william Ruto of having a hand in it

Addressing journalists at Parliament Buildings, lawmakers led by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba described the incident as a “disgraceful act” that amounted to state-sponsored brutality.

“I call for immediate accountability. Those responsible must face justice. Remaining silent in the face of such an atrocity is complicity. Kenya must choose between tyranny and liberty,” Wamuchomba declared

“Those girls confessed on TV that they didn’t eat, sleep, or even shower the night before the performance. This is not how we treat our children. On behalf of this government, I must call it out for what it has become,” she said.

Security officers lob tear gas to disperse a crowd that had gathered in protest of the treatment accorded to the Butere Girls High School drama team that was scheduled to perform Thursday morning.

Butere Girls students were caught in the crowd and were forced to rush back to their bus, and some fell in the process.

The students were expected to perform their controversial play “Echoes of War” said to have been scripted by former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala.

Speaking at buildings, pro- President William ruto leaders have queried why Malala who is not a teacher at Butere girls scripted the play warning of legal redress for what they term as an overreach in the education sector.

“Let us not allow political competition to come into play in the education arena. I assure parents and the nation that we will not allow interference with education.” Mp Sylvanus Osoro stated.
