Tana river senator Danson Mungatana has castigated the Us embassy in Kenya for flagging the county as unsafe
The three-level advisory which recommends heightened risks to safety and security warns against travelling to the Kenya-Somalia Border counties of Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, and coastal areas north of Malindi and Lamu due to concerns about terrorism and kidnapping.
West Pokot and Western Turkana counties have also been designated as “no-go zones” because of banditry.
Mungata has castigated the advisory as unfounded saying the cases of insecurity have greatly reduced owing to the increased security beef up.
”How call all these children be here, yet their is insecurity in the county?” he asked. “The US ambassador is new and he should be well abreast with the security situation of the countr.” He finalised.
The county had been making it to the headlines over reports of insecurity, with two sub-counties, Bangale and Tana North, declared as disturbed and dangerous, leading to security enhancements and school closures due to ethnic clashes.
Last year, the Ministry of Interior and National Administration declared Bangale and Tana North sub-counties as disturbed and dangerous, prompting security enhancements.
In response at least 12 primary schools in the county, all from the two sub-counties, were closed indefinitely due to insecurity stemming from ethnic clashes.
