High Court Denies Waititu Bail in Sh588 Million Graft Case

Former Kiambu governor will remain at the Industrial area remand prison after The High Court has denied him bail pending his appeal against his conviction in a Sh 588 million corruption case.

Justice Lucy Njuguna ruled that Waititu failed to provide sufficient grounds to warrant bail, emphasizing that the right to bail is not automatic and must be justified. She directed that his appeal be heard on a priority basis.

Waititu, who was sentenced to 12 years in jail or a Sh53.5 million fine on 13th February 2025, had argued through his lawyer Dansan Omari that serving the sentence while awaiting appeal would be prejudicial.

He was convicted for irregularly awarding tenders in Kiambu County in 2018.

His wife, Susan Wangaru, was also sentenced to one year in prison or a Sh500,000 fine for unlawfully dealing with public property worth Sh7.1 million.
