Elias Mutugi Njeru, a businessman accused of stabbing his partner, Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, has been released on a Ksh. 200,000 cash bail or a cash bond of 500,000 .
Njeru, the main suspect in the attempted murder, appeared before Principal Magistrate Daisy Mose at the Molo Law Courts and pleaded not guilty.
Njeru had previously turned himself in at Nakuru Police Station, accompanied by his lawyer. He was re-arrested and held at Menengai Police Station as investigations continue.
The alleged attack occurred at the couple’s Nakuru rental home, following domestic disputes. Gichohi, who is also Njeru’s business partner, was severely injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Detectives investigating the stabbing incident involving Nakuru-based businesswoman Florence Wanjiku and JCM pastor Elias Mutugi have confirmed they obtained CCTV footage capturing the confrontation.
The footage shows Elias arriving at Florence’s place of work 10 minutes after she left, where he is seen speaking with a security guard.
Shortly after, Florence returns and rams her car into Elias’ vehicle, prompting him to exit and confront her. Elias is later seen heading back to his vehicle with what appears to be blood stains on his shirt.
However, Elias’ lawyer, Chege Gakuhi, has denied the accusations, insisting that his client was not involved in stabbing Florence. Gakuhi pledged to fully cooperate with the detectives to determine the truth of the events that transpired on the night of 21st November.
The case, which has drawn significant public attention, is set for hearing on December 9.
The incident has sparked condemnation from local leaders and activists, including Gender Principal Secretary Anna Wangombe, who pledged support for the victim’s family and urged swift action in the case.
