Teachers have threatened to go on strike if Teacher Service Commission does not honor their end of the bargain in amendments made in the 2023 collective bargaining agreement
The Kenya National Union of Teachers are now demanding the remittance of statutory deductions, including bank loans, after some institutions wrote to individual teachers demanding repayment.
“We cannot listen anymore, the issue of deductions that has not been remitted to banks is affecting teachers,” the secretary general stated, asking where is the money they were promised in the CBA agreement.
Speaking to journalists Knut secretary-general Collins Oyuu has revealed they have convened a meeting with the service to air their grievances tomorrow and there after petition relevant agencies of their intention to institute their industrial action if their demands have not been met.
“It is in the public domain that all is not well in the teaching fraternity. We agreed last year on the amendment of the CBA that was to cut across two phases. Phases one was paid in 2023 July, phase two was to be paid in 2024 July. This has not happened,” Collins Oyuu said.
“A signed agreement in the name of CBA documented in law is not respected that is reason why my teachers are mad.”
“This is the best time to call a strike,” said Oyuu.
The union has now called for immediate intervention to avert disruption in the third term alluding mischief from the side of govt .
“We have written to the TSC, this leads to industrial action which might not be escaped in any way,” Oyuu noted
