AU Commission Sets August 6 Deadline for Senior Leadership Nominations

The African Union Commission has announced that all nominations for the eight senior leadership positions must be submitted by Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

According to an AU statement, only candidate names submitted by their respective regions will be considered in the pre-selection process conducted by the Panel of Eminent Africans. Additionally, only Member States not under AU sanctions are permitted to submit candidates.

“The deadline for the submission of the regional nominations of candidates vying for the eight senior leadership positions at the African Union Commission is Tuesday, August 6, 2024,” the statement read.

The Commission emphasized that all eight senior leadership positions are open for candidate submissions, following the regional allocation of the portfolios. These positions include the Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson, and six Commissioners.

Interested candidates are advised to submit their curriculum vitae and vision statements, outlining how they plan to advance the transformative agenda of the African Union and address the existing and emerging challenges facing the continent, to their member states.

The elections for these positions are scheduled for February 2025 during the African Union Summit.
