Intern doctors are camping at the health ministry’s headquarters at Afya House protesting their delayed posting and the provision of comprehensive medical cover to civil servants under the Social Health Authority.
The interns are geared with vuvuzelas and placards chanting occupy MOH slogans and are accompanied by officials from the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dental Union.
The union secretary general Devji Atellah Secretary-General Davji Atellah noted that according to the return to work formula, the ministry was to post intern doctors by July 6, 2024.
There are at least 1,500 intern doctors awaiting posting with Some having been on stand-by for two years, one year and six months now.
Earlier the union refuted claims that their strike was put off noting that their X social media account had been hacked.
In a statement Atellah went on to say that they are doing all they can to regain control of the account.
A statement which has since been deleted said the suspension of the demos was as a result of “ongoing talks with the Ministry of Health”.
