14 people have lost their lives in two separate accidents within 12 hours along the Nakuru -Kericho and Nakuru Kericho highways.
The latest incident has occurred Tuesday morning claiming the lives of 8 people after a grisly road accident in the Ngata area, Nakuru on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to Rift Valley police boss Tom Odera the 8 died after a multiple car crash involving three vehicles.
Police said the Nakuru accident happened at the Ngata blackspot at about 5.40 am after one of the lorries from Eldoret to Nakuru lost its brakes.
The driver escaped the scene and efforts are being made to trace him.
Separately six people died last Monday after a lorry and a private car collided along the Nakuru- Kericho route.
According to the regional traffic commandant, Dorothy Muleke, the six died on the spot when the private care collided head on with a lorry as he was overtaking a fleet of cars
According to Muleke Several other injured people are being treated in various hospitals in Kericho town.
The accidents have been blamed on among others speeding and reckless driving.
This as the road and transport cabinet secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced plans to roll out gadgets that will monitor traffic on different roads to enhance road safety.
Murkomen has also added that the ministry is also working on regulations to ensure that those who disobey traffic laws are prosecuted.
