“Uganda on High Alert as IS-linked ADF Militants Cross Border from DR Congo”

Ugandan security forces have heightened their vigilance following reports that fighters from an Islamic State-linked group have infiltrated the country over the weekend.

The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants, as reported by the army, are allegedly planning attacks in various urban areas, places of worship, schools, and public events.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to potential ADF terror activities.

This warning comes in light of the ADF’s history of carrying out deadly attacks in Uganda, including a recent incident targeting a school in June.

Originally formed in Uganda during the 1990s by individuals disgruntled with the government’s treatment of Muslims, the ADF was subsequently driven out by the army, with remnants fleeing across the border into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Despite joint offensives launched by Uganda and the DRC in 2021 to dislodge the ADF from their Congolese strongholds, the group has persisted in its attacks.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has asserted that the military operation has successfully neutralized a significant number of ADF fighters, including some of its commanders.
