President Ruto vows to elevate Kericho town to a city

President William Ruto has announced plans of elevating the status of Kericho town into a city during his Kericho Bomet regional development tour.

President Ruto has said the government has secured over 600 acres of land for the expansion of the town with an additional portion yet to be allocated.

”Over 600 acres has already been set aside for the construction of Kericho city and another 1,000 acres is still in the pipeline to realize the elevation of the tea rich region,” Ruto announced.

“I want to announce that the 1,000-acre piece of land which had issues, all those issues have now been sorted by the government and now we will get a 1,000-acre piece of land for expansion, development and planning of Kericho town” He added.

Speaking during the commissioning of the  Kapsuser-Sosiot Road, Belgut, Kericho County the head of state further revealed that he shall be issuing title deeds of the said parcel of land for the swift development of the town.

”I shall liaise with the senator and governor to identify the rightful owners of the land and issue title deeds for immediate development of the town into a city,” the head of state promised.

He had made similar sentiments during 2023 Mashujaa Day celebration where President Ruto revealed that the national government was in the process of identifying land for development.

If the Kenya Kwanza administration realizes this promise, Kenya will have a total of five cities latest being Nakuru which was elevated from a town during the Jubilee government tenure.

On 3 June 2021 Nakuru was officially endorsed for city status after the Kenyan Senate voted for its elevation from a Municipality.
