DCI seeks 14 days to probe suspects of property destruction in Naivasha

DCI and IEBC to arrest vandalisers of campaign material

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is seeking fourteen days to hold Seventeen suspects who are being investigated over destruction of property in Naivasha.

The prosecution told the trial Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe that the suspects were arrested on 1st March, 2024 and investigations have not been completed to establish the motive of destruction of a fence whose property does not belong to them.

The court was told that there has been a public outcry leading members of the public to storm Naivasha police station where the suspects were held, in which the police believe that they wanted to lynch them.

The prosecution told the court that if the custodial order is granted they should be held at Capital Hill police station.

However their lawyer Mbugua Mureithi strongly opposed the application saying the Investigating officers has been window shopping for the same orders including Kajiado where the court declined to issue the order in favor of the Investigating officer.

The lawyer said his clients should be held in Naivasha where the alleged incident occurred.

The court reserved its ruling until tomorrow, March 6 2024.
