Don’s Force Students to attend Church, Let it be out of Their Own Will- Cs Machogu to Daystar University

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu is set to deliver his findings to the Education Committee of the National Assembly in two weeks regarding the controversial allegations surrounding Daystar University that has sparked debate between religious freedom and academic requirements.

The university has been accused of coercing students from various religious backgrounds to conform to all religious norms and practices of the institution and attend 75% of chapel services.

Daystar University, a private Christian university has defended itself by claiming that all students are required to sign a code of conduct before enrolment committing to uphold the Institution’s norms and Christian value.

According to a post on X of Nyali Member of parliament, Hon. Mohammed Ali, he has asked the CS to respond to the housen committee to allegations that students enrolled in Daystar are forced to attend chapel services which plays a significance role in academic assessments at the end of each semester.

Hon. Ali has also asked machogu to provide insights into the alleged practice of withholding grades from students who opt out of attending chapel hindering their ability to graduate.

Therefore, The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has directed that a team from the Ministry of Education be sent to the university and probe the allegations.
