Eldoret Court declines to stop Kiptum’s burial amid paternity row

The Eldoret High Court judge Justice Wananda has ordered that the burial of slain Marathoner Kelvin Kitptum will go as planned after a woman wanted it stopped saying her baby who Kiptum allegedly fathered is left out of the burial arrangements.

A 22-year-old woman, sought a temporary injunction to stop the release of Kiptum’s body from Eldoret Hospital Mortuary and disposing of it until a paternity test was conducted by Kenya Medical Research Institute to prove her claims.

Edna Owuor also demanded that the minor be recognized as a beneficiary of Kiptum’s estate, arguing that if the burial goes on as planned without paternity being established, the minor’s welfare will be in jeopardy.

Justice Robert Wananda noted that extensive burial arrangements had already been made at considerable expense, deeming it unjust to delay the interment.

Kelvin Kiptum’s body has this afternoon been moved from Eldoret Hospital to Iten for viewing before prayers at his home in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
