The national government has disbursed 451,000 shillings to the eight counties ravaged by floods caused by the El nino rains that has so far claimed the lives of 142 Kenyans.
The cash will be channeled to 119,000 vulnerable households as cash transfers through the hunger safety net program under the national drought management authority in the ASAL ministry.
While speaking in Garissa, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the government is alive to the struggles of Kenyans affected by the floods
The National El Niño Steering Committee said floods have killed a total of 120 people, with Tana River, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera counties worst hit. Nine other counties are on high alert.
DP Gachagua is this afternoon expected to tour Tana River county where he will preside over the cash transfer program at Garsen High School, Wajir and Mandera counties among a list of places that have the worst hit regions by the heavy rains.
DP Gachagua has also reiterated the govt commitment to repair the road damages that have deemed humanitarian aid impassable
A total of 93,432 households have so far been affected by floods with 391 Diarrhea cases having been reported in Garissa, Kwale, Mandera, and Wajir counties.
