President William Ruto has welcomed the resolution by the United Nations Security Council approving the Multinational security force to quell criminal gangs in Haiti.
In a statement the head of state remains confident in the peacekeeping mission that will see 1,000 Kenyan officers deployed to the Caribbean nation in January next year to fight criminal gangs that have unraveled the lives of many.
“For us in Kenya, this mission is of special significance and critical urgency. In our struggle, we always had friends, not an overwhelming multitude of powerful allies, yet nevertheless true, loyal and determined friends,” Ruto said.
“The people of Haiti, our dear friends, today stand in need. It is our fundamental moral obligation to be their friend indeed, by standing with them.”
The President has described Kenya’s mission in Haiti as a humanitarian urge to empower Haitians in recapturing their country from gangs.
Ruto has said the Kenyan mission will also ensure that it secures the country’s critical infrastructure including air and seaports as well as other vital transit arteries and intersections.
Kenya will be joined by Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda and the Bahamas.
