NDC co-chairs say talks have entered into critical stage

Co- chairs of the National Dialogue committee say it will be setting up interim measures on particular issues affecting Kenyans that include the cost of living.

Speaking to the media Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has affirmed that there’s urgency to alleviate suffering Kenyans from the cost of life saying despite the issue being common to both sides, the ways to achieve it remain a contentious issue.

“There are issues we have agreed on but there are others we are yet to strike a common ground. For example, we have agreed on the reconstitution of the IEBC but we have not agreed how,” he explained.

“We want Kenyans to know we stand with them,” he added.

The Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichungwah on his part defended deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s statement calling to order state officers over their reaction to the hike in fuel prices following the public uproar last week.

Ichugwah has said  the NDC is cognizant of the pain beared by Kenyans over the cost of living hence it will hold more discussion on the topic.

“We have considered reports of the technical teams and we have issues of both convergence and divergence,” he stated.

“On Friday, some identified stakeholders will appear before us for 20 minutes each,” he said.

He said those to appear before the committee include the IEBC Secretariat, the IEBC Selection Panel and the Working Group on Two-Thirds Gender Rule.
