Ethiopian Gudaf smashes women 5000 M record as Wanyonyi wins in Eugene

Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay set a new world record in the 5000 metres to wipe out Kenyan’s Faith Kipyego record set early this year.

World 10,000m champion Gudaf clocked a time of 14 minutes 00.21 seconds shaving off five seconds the previous record. Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet was just outside the previous mark as she finished second in 14:05.92.

Faith Kipyegon was however not involved in the 5000 metres but wrapped up the 1500 Metres in style to walk away with the diamond league title.

There was joy for Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi as he upset world champion Marco Arop to win the men’s 800m title in a time of one minute,42.80 seconds.

Athing Mu out ran Kenya’s dancing queen Mary Moraa to win the women diamond league 800 meters race. Moraa finished fourth to wrap up the season .

Ferdinand Omanyala also wrapped up the diamond league season well coming in third in the 100 Metres in race won by American Christian Coleman

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis also set world records as the Diamond League final concluded in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday.

Duplantis cleared his first attempt at 6.23m at Hayward Field to lift the height some inches.

Women’s 200m world champion Shericka Jackson upset United States Sha’Carri Richardson to win the 100m on Saturday and the Jamaican followed that up by cruising to the 200m title in 21.57seconds.
