I will deal with impunity and extrajudicial killings in equal measure- President Ruto

President William Ruto has yet again lauded the police for professionally curtailing the wave of unrest brought about by the anti government demonstrations as he made his reservation on officers using excessive force on Kenyans.

While speaking in Muranga county on his tour of development projects President Ruto noted the state will exert the same force to fight extrajudicial killings.

“Criminals must be dealt with firmly, decisively and make sure that we respect the rule of law and we don’t encourage impunity of any nature,” he asserted.

As the first in command, condemned protests called by the opposition, he charged that the state will not back down on its stance of preventing  destruction of property, looting of businesses that are brought about by the  protests.

While President Ruto observed that normalcy had been restored through efforts by the police, the Kenya Human Right Commission condemned the increased targeting and attacks against human rights defenders by security agencies during the protests.

In a statement KHRC says the attacks water down an already unsettling environment for Human Rights Defenders where at least 43 have been arbitrarily arrested, abducted, unlawfully detained  and trumped-up with charges

The deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has accused the Azimio Coalition leaders of gimmickry and sympathy seeking theatrics in their declarations that they have been kept under house arrest by police.

Azimio Leader Raila Odinga had claimed that Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Usawa Kwa Wote party leader Mwangi Wa Iria have been under siege since Tuesday.

According to the second in command, the opposition leaders should sit back and watch President Ruto deliver his mandate without favor or prejudice
