KNUT Calls For Extensive Public Participation On The Housing Levy

KNUT Secretary-General Collins Oyuu Has called for extensive public participation on the 3% housing levy.

Addressing the press Oyuu has criticized the government for releasing information about the project without a concrete plan.

The KNUT Secretary General has emphasized the importance of proper public participation, stating that it would have helped the President to garner more support for the idea of contributing 3 percent of individuals’ salaries.

Oyuu argued that it was unrealistic for the President to expect salary deductions from individuals like boda boda riders and mama mbogas who do not have payslips.

The KNUT SG has joined the debate and demanded more clarification, stating that the idea was to have a thorough discussion about the housing levy through public participation.

He stressed the need to understand the details of the levy, how it would be implemented, and how it would be communicated to union members.

However, (KUPPET) rejected the fund on May 12, as their members already owned houses. Some KUPPET members expressed concerns about investing in the high-rise apartments proposed by Ruto, stating that they preferred their current properties and that the cost of a decent house would be burdensome for teachers.
