Governor Sakaja
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will today host a mayor’s forum on planning and investment programming for the Somalia Urban Resilience Project II.
This is after he handed the keys to Nairobi City to the visiting Mayors from Somalia.
The feted Mayors include; Omar Abdullahi, Mayor of Kismayo, Abdullahi Watiin, Mayor of Baidoa, Nadar Tabah, Mayor of Beledweyne and Abdirahman Mohammed, Mayor of Dhuusamareeb Municipality.
The keys symbolize the freedom of the recipient to enter and leave the city at will, as a trusted friend of city locals.
“In the modern era, the Key to the City was a beloved symbol of civic recognition and gratitude reserved for individuals whose service to the public and the common good rises to the highest level of achievement. You are now one of us and Karibuni Nairobi,” Sakaja stated.
Keys to cities are traditionally given by a Governor or Mayor, in the case of a municipality.
Funded by the World Bank and its partners, the Somalia Urban Resilience Project – Phase II (SURP-II) aims to strengthen public service delivery capacity of local governments, increase access to climate-resilient urban infrastructure and services, and provide immediate and effective response to crises and emergencies.
