The National Council of Churches of Kenya has called for the murder of Shakahola, allegedly caused by Paul Mackenzie of Good News International Church, to be treated as an individual crime rather than a religious one.
Alfred Magambo, the chairman of NCCK in Kilifi County, stated that Christians and Muslims do not teach beliefs that lead to violence in Shakahola.
Speaking at a peace conference in Kilifi, Magambo has urged religious leaders to operate under the umbrella of NCCK or other similar organizations, so that they can be held accountable for any mistakes and given appropriate advice and guidance.
This comes after the Shakahola cult came to light where followers fasted to death to meet Jesus.
