Court orders the accounts of Pastor Odero to remain frozen

Controversial Pastor Odero

The Mombasa High court has ordered that the accounts of controversial Pastor Ezekiel Odero remain frozen pending investigations.

The Pastor who is accused of having links with Paul Mackenzie who is a suspect of the murder of more than 200 people through starvation to meet God, made an application to the court to grant him orders for the state to unfreeze his account.

The New Life Prayer Centre and Church pastor had also sought order to bar a Nairobi to rule on the matter arguing that a similar case was present in Mombasa.

Speaking before the Milimani Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhupi, Odero’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta said a similar application had been made in Mombasa Olga Sawe and had reserved the ruling for today.

Ombeta submitted that the mischievous conduct of the state of moving from one court to another in an attempt to obtain orders to frustrate pastor Ezekiel is a misuse of the judicial process.

“The move to freeze account will frustrate the operations of the church and the school which has 3,000 employees and some are paid daily”, Ombeta told the court.

He said the school needs funds to feed over 300 students and pay employees.

Pastor Ezekiel had filed the application on grounds that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had not provided material facts noting that a similar decision had been vacated by a Shanzu court.
