A committee formed to oversee the implementation of recommendations for improved sanitation at Mukumu Girls High School, has proposed that the institution reopens on 2nd of May.
Chaired by Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia, the Committee noted that Form Four learners will open first.
They will undergo mandatory testing, counseling and monitoring of their health status before settling down.
The process will later be repeated for learners in the other classes.
Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia however said before the school reopens, parents will be invited to a meeting attended by Education Cabinet Secretary Education Ezekiel Machogu on 29th of April.
They will be allowed to inspect the school infrastructure, and assess the safety measures put in place.
They will also undergo group counselling by a team of seasoned psychologists.
The Regional Commissioner said the current restructuring of the school is ongoing with the construction of a borehole, treatment of water, and preparation to replace asbestos roofing with modern iron sheets.
This follows the indefinite closure of the school, after learners consumed food and water with Salmonella and enterotoxigenic e-coli bacteria, which saw the death of 3 students and a boarding mistress.
