Ruto mourns Pwani University accident victims

Head of State William Ruto has condoled with the Pwani University fraternity following Thursday’s accident that has so far claimed 17  lives.

The accident occurred when the Institution’s bus collided with a matatu along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The bus which had about 30 people including teachers and students, was ferrying students to Eldoret for sports.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones in the Naivasha accident involving a Pwani University bus. It’s heartbreaking that some of the fatalities were young citizens with a promising future. We pray for the speedy recovery of the survivors,” said Ruto.

The accident which occurred at 11am, is said to have been caused by a suspected break failure.

The bus hit at least five vehicles before rolling into a ditch at Kayole-Karai area in Naivasha.

The Chief Officer for Disaster Management in Nakuru county – Joyce Cheche has appealed for blood donations noting that many of the victims lost a lot of blood.

“Over 50 are undergoing treatment at the Naivasha sub-county hospital while the bodies have been taken to the local mortuary,” he said.

She termed the incident as shocking, coming barely a day after seven people died in Oljorai area after their houses were swept by flash floods.
