Murder Charge Against CS Jumwa Formally Withdrawn

The murder charge against Public Service and Gender CS Aisha Jumwa has been formally withdrawn.

This is after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution made an application at the Mombasa High Court to have the murder charge withdrawn and Jumwa to be a state witness.

The ODPP told the court that charges against the Jumwa cannot be sustained.

Jumwa will now be a state witness and is expected to testify against her former bodyguard Geoffrey Okuto.

ODPP undertook a review of the prosecution file after a request was made by her lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrach Wambui.

This comes after Haji on November 30, made an oral application seeking to withdraw the murder charge against Jumwa.

However, the High Court in Mombasa ordered the case to be mentioned on December 21 for formal withdrawal of the case against the former Malindi Member of Parliament.

“This matter l have instructions by the DPP to make an application in respect to Juma to withdraw the matter under section 87(a)of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) and the charges against her be marked as withdrawn as she shall be treated as prosecution witnesses against her co-accused,” the prosecutor told the court.
