Senate 11 Member Committee To Probe Governor Kawira Mwangaza

The Senate has approved the appointment of an eleven-member committee to probe the impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza by the Meru County Assembly.

This comes after 33 voted in for the select committee

This comes after 67 Meru MCAs, on December 14, voted in support of Mwangaza’s impeachment motion which was first proposed by Abogeta West MCA Dennis Kiogora, on November 22, 2022, on grounds that the Governor had infringed on her constitutional powers .

The senators who will sit on the committee are; Boni Khalwale (Kakamega), Jackson Mandango (Uasin Gishu), Karungo Thangwa (Kiambu), Esther Okenyuri (Nominated), Roba Ali Ibrahim (Mandera) and Peris Tobiko (Nominated).

Eddy Gicheru Oketch (Migori), Joseph Githuku Kamau (Lamu), Edwin Sifuna (Nairobi), Agnes Muthama (Machakos) and Johnes Mwaruma (Taita Taveta) will also sit on the committee.

The committee is expected to table its finding before the Senate within 10 days of its appointment complete with Mwangaza’s counter on the impeachment motion.

Other members are Senators Agnes Kavindu, Johnes Mwaruma, Roba Ibrahim, Esther Okenyri, Joseph Kamau and Eddy Oketch.

Should the Senate overrule the motion, it should not be reintroduced on similar grounds, until after three months.
