The Judiciary has sworn in president-elect William Ruto as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya.
Judiciary Chief registrar Anne Amadi, led Ruto in taking the oath of due execution of the functions of the office of president.
Among others he swore to do justice as per the constitution and the laws of the country.
This was preceded by taking the oath of allegiance, and thereafter signing of the oaths certificates, which have been stamped and sealed by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
At the same time,
Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has appended his signatures after being sworn in.
Presidential standards have also been swapped, with former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Navy blue standard lowered and President Ruto’s yellow standard with the wheelbarrow symbol and court of arms hoisted.
Over 20 heads of state and government have graced the ceremony held at the Kasarani stadium, Nairobi.
They include; Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu Hassan, Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, DRC’s Felix Tshisekedi, Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa, Sudanese President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Umaro Sissoco of Guinea Bissau, Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, Burundi’s Evariste Ndayishhimiye.
Also present is Malawi’s, Djibouti’s Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) President Brahim Ghali, South Sudan President Salva Kiir, and Sierra Leone’s Julius Maada Bio.
South Africa Deputy President David Mabuza is standing in for the country’s Head of State.
The African Union (AU) Commission Chair Faki Mahamat is also in attendance,
