Supreme Court upholds the election of William Ruto as President-elect.

The seven -judge bench of the supreme court led by Chief Justice Martha Koome has dismissed the petition filed by Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua challenging the presidential election results.

The Supreme court has also declared President elect William Ruto as legally elected in the 2022 presidential election.

In the judgment read by Chief Justice Martha Koome, the supreme court found that the IEBC electronic KIEMS kits met the standards of integrity, security and verifiability to guarantee accurate and verifiable results.

The Supreme court has also found that there was no interference with uploading and transmission of forms 34A from polling stations to the IEBC public portal.

The seven judge bench says it cannot determine whether the postponement of the Kakamega and Mombasa gubernatorial elections by IEBC was meant to suppress voter turnout for the first respondent.

CJ Koome also ruled that  the four  dissenting commissioners did not  present any information showing the results were compromised.

She added that the state cannot go into a rerun election owing to an internal dispute in the IEBC .

Outdoing Deputy President Ruto was declared President-elect on August 15 by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes, defeating Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga who had 6,942,930 votes.

The President elect William Ruto will now be sworn in to office within fourteen days together with his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
