Uasin Gishu Gubernatorial Aspirants have signed a peace accord committing to promote peace before, during and after the August General Election.
The candidates assured to not engage in spreading hate speech or actions that may promote electoral violence.
They also called on their supporters to turn up in large numbers and vote for them.
The aspirants included; William Kirwa of the UDM party, Independent candidate Reuben Koech and UDA candidate Jonathan Bii, among others.
“The signed manifesto will help us achieve a county that is peaceful, secure, economically and socially viable which provides equal opportunities to all its residents,” said the candidates.
This comes after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) in May listed Uasin Gishu among 6 counties likely to experience electoral violence during the General Election.
The other 5 are; Nairobi, Nakuru, Kericho, Kisumu, and Mombasa counties.
“Six counties recorded an inflated vulnerability for electoral violence in the upcoming General Elections. The major impending threat being pre-existing conflicts around issues of inequalities in the distribution of resources, high population density in informal settlements and infiltration of organized criminal gangs and groups,” said NCIC.
NCIC conducted a hotspot mapping to get an understanding of the peace and the security situation in the country, to inform programming for the prevention of electoral violence ahead of the 2022 General Election.
