Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) George Magoha says the government seeks to complete the construction of phase two CBC classrooms before the 9th of August General Election.
Speaking from Murang’a County, he noted that about 500 out of the 3, 500 classrooms have been completed since the project was rolled out two weeks ago.
“We want to go to elections when we are a bit relaxed, ” he said.
He then called on the contractors of the classrooms to ensure the project is complete within two weeks time.
“Our target of phase two CBC classrooms is going to be finished on schedule and without fear of contradiction. I want the contractors to ensure that construction of the classrooms must be done on schedule because we are the ones who are supposed to be accountable to ourselves and our children,’ said Magoha.
He however noted that if the project will not be completed on time, then it shall be continued into the next government.
Magoha spoke while inspecting the ongoing construction of a new phase two CBC classroom at Mirira Secondary School in Murang’a East sub-county.
Phase one of the project saw 6, 500 classes constructed across the country.
This is as the government targets to construct 10, 000 CBC classrooms.
Private schools are expected to construct an additional 4, 000 classrooms bringing the total of CBC classrooms to 14, 000.
