Veteran Journalist Joe Kadhi has been pronounced dead.

According to his family he died while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

The family says he will be interred later today in line with the Muslim customs.

Kadhi who was named the nation’s ‘godfather of print media’, had an illustrious career that saw him work as managing editor for Daily Nation under Nation Media Group.

He taught journalism at the Universities of Nairobi and Addis Ababa, before heading to the United States International University- Africa where he retired after 20 years.

Kadhi also won a lifetime achievement award at the 2015 Media Council’s Annual Journalism Excellence Awards, besides chairing the editorial board of the Media Observer magazine.

Meanwhile, the media fraternity and the political class is mourning his demise.

Deputy President William Ruto has written on his twitter “Joe Kadhi was a truly gifted, dedicated and enthusiastic journalist who leaves behind an extraordinary body of work. Our thoughts and prayers to the family and the media fraternity. Rest In Peace.”

 Journalist Linus Kaikai has eulogised Kadhi “As a mentor, professional guardian, legendary trainer and a pioneer of the golden generation.”
