The IEBC has expressed confidence in the success of the equipment set aside for the August General Election.

While expounding on the matter, the electoral agency CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, said this follows the procurement of 45,000 Kenya Integrated Election Management System kits for the 2017 General Election, 41,000 of which are still in good condition for this year’s election.

He also noted that they bought an additional 14,100 digital kits to be used in the August 9 General Election.

The procurement of ballot papers will start on 30th of June 2022.

“The Kiems kits has two important information; Biographic information which is information regarding the voter (names, polling stations, ID number, photograph & DOB) and biometrics of the voters in specific polling stations,” said Marjan.

“In 2017, we had 3 backup kits per ward but now we have 6 backup kits per ward thus we are going to this election with more backup kits than in the previous election,” he added.

He then noted that the physical register is prone to abuse.

“The electronic system archives the details of those who have voted and if someone comes back to vote again, the system will sound an alarm. The system will keep a record of how many people will have voted.”

According to Marjan, IEBC has increased the number of polling stations from 40,883 to 46,223.

The commission will also recruit 300,000 temporary staff, including presiding officers, deputy presiding officers and clerks.

Marjan spoke from Windsor Hotel in Nairobi, where IEBC officials are meeting August Presidential candidates.

IEBC has invited William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance Party, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance’s Raila Odinga, Roots Party George Wajackoyah of, and Waihiga Mwaure of Agano Party to attend the meeting.
