DP Ruto Blames Uhuru and Odinga For The High Cost of Living

Kenya Kwanza Presidential Candidate William Ruto on Sunday pledged to address the high cost of living in the country, if elected president in August.

While addressing Kilifi locals Ruto blamed Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the soaring costs of basic commodities.

He noted that Odinga’s advice to President Uhuru Kenyatta to change the constitution through the BBI, instead of focusing on Jubilee’s Big 4 Agenda, caused the current economic crisis.

“In 2018, the 2kg packet of maize flour cost Sh75. It is now selling at Sh250 and we are told that after I was elbowed out,” said the Deputy President.

“It is his advice that has made the price of flour to rise. Is this a person you can hire even to herd your goats? What if he gets the top job, will the price of flour get to Sh500?” he questioned.

The United Democratic Alliance leader then went ahead to defend his manifesto saying the top priority of his Kenya Kwanza government would be to lower the cost of living.

“When I was made minister for Agriculture, the cost of fertilizer was Sh5,000 but I lowered it to Sh2,500. I was just a minister then, what if I become the President?” asked Ruto.

Separately, his running mate Righathi Gachagua took Kenya Kwanza campaigns to Nyeri County, where he also launched an attack on Raila Odinga.
