IEBC invites presidential candidates for a meeting

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, has invited the four presidential candidates for a consultative meeting next week on Wednesday 29th June 2022 at the Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club from 9.00am

Deputy President William Ruto of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Raila Odinga of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance, George Wajacoyah of Roots Party and David Mwaure of Agano Party are expected to attend.

The commission says  a maximum of five people will be allowed to accompany  the candidates for the meeting.

The electoral commission has invited the candidates amidst a number of concerns raised over electoral preparedness.

The Agenda expected to be discussed are, printed register of voters, election results path, and campaign schedules harmonization.

The meeting will come after  some civil society groups moved to court to compel the IEBC to include a manual voter register in every polling station as an alternative if the KIEMS kit fail.  

Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate questioned IEBC’s move not to use the manual voter registers as a complementary mechanism to electronic identification of voters.

Odinga has moved to court to question why the poll agency used the rationale saying it will lock out electorate who have a right to exercise their democratic right at the ballot.
